These terms cover your use of Bearletter, a service for writing, publishing a blog and keeping in touch with readers. Bearletter is operated from Champion Tower, Three Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong (“we”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address. Keep access to that mailbox secure; anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher.
- You are responsible for what happens in your account, including content published through the text API with your access tokens.
Your content
- You keep all rights to what you write and upload. You give us the permission we need to store, process, display and deliver it to run the service — for example to show your blog to readers, send confirmation emails to your subscribers, or list a post in Discover.
- You can export your blog as a folder of Markdown files, download your media, and export your subscriber lists at any time, on any plan.
- You confirm you have the rights to everything you publish and that people you add to a mailing list by hand or by import agreed to hear from you.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Bearletter to:
- publish anything illegal, or content that infringes someone else’s rights;
- send spam, run phishing or scams, or distribute malware;
- harass, threaten or exploit others, including any sexual content involving minors;
- interfere with the service, probe it for weaknesses without permission, or get around plan limits.
We may remove content, hide a blog from Discover, suspend a blog or close an account that breaks these rules. Where it’s reasonable we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem and export your content.
Free and Pro
- Writing and a blog on a bearletter.com subdomain are free. Pro costs US$5 a month or US$50 a year and adds the features shown in the app before you buy.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in Settings → Billing; cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for.
- If a renewal payment fails, Pro stays active for 7 more days while you update your payment method.
- Except where the law requires otherwise, we don’t refund a period that has already started. If you believe you were charged by mistake, write to hello@bearletter.com.
- If you move from Pro to Free, your writing, blog and lists stay. Uploading stops, and uploaded media is kept for a limited time — files no longer used anywhere are removed after 30 days and the rest after 90 days — with email reminders and a download option before each date.
- We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice. A new price applies from your next renewal.
Custom domains
If you connect a domain, you must own it or be allowed to use it, and you remain responsible for its registration and DNS. Custom domains are a Pro feature; if Pro ends, your blog goes back to its bearletter.com address.
Ending your use
You can stop using Bearletter at any time. To delete your account and its data, email hello@bearletter.com from the address you sign in with. We may stop offering the service, or part of it, with reasonable notice so you can export your content.
Disclaimer and liability
We work to keep Bearletter reliable, but the service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, and we can’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Keep your own copies of anything important. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it arose.
Changes and law
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect; continuing to use Bearletter after that means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
